I like to think of it instead as Heightened States of Awareness. Ive tried using the word consciousness but it doesnt seem specific enough to work with. It seems more like an all encompassing word that covers everything we do with our mind. I agree with them that it is an important field of study, but not so much to grasp consciousness, but more like to extend/expand it. However, I think theres two parts here. Dreams, psi, intuition etc are natural tools that are right there to be developed. Drug experiences of any kind however are not. The former require slow steady growth of understanding and practice with them until you find the best way to work with them. The latter plunges you way ahead and you have no context from which to work with them, very interesting and maybe even exciting sometimes but how useful? (Remember Carlos Castenedas had Don Juan as guide to context of his experiences, how many of us have teachers like that?) What I am playing with right now and would appreciate opinions about is: I think we have natural inhibitors/blocks which keep us from going too fast in acquiring skills so that while developing a skill, were also developing the ability to use it in the best way and also deal with being able to do whatever. (and slowly breaking down then eliminating that particular inhibitor) Im thinking that drugs knock out the inhibitors, show us possibilities and satisfy our impatience to experience more, but not how to work with them. Questions: What are the inhibitors/blocks and how can we remove them faster naturally? (and still retain the usefulness of the new experience?) Elusia

I think that some things you experience are hallucinations when youre on Ayahuasca, Mushrooms, Marijuana, Salvia etc. But to a certain degree of course. Theres a strange side on life that we only can perceive when we see things from another perspective. Its logix. When youre standing on the other side of an object, you see the side you couldnt see when you were standing on that Other side of the object. Same here with conciousness. When your conciousness is altered, you can see solutions to problems you couldnt see before, you can discover problems that you didnt know of, you can perceive people, emotions, intents, creativity, music, energies, EVERYTHING from another perspective. Focus on anything and it will be like youre seeing it the first time, because you see the other side of the object. Its a shame to call such experiences just a hallucination.

I would like to add my two cents worth regarding ayahuasca. Ive been drinking the brew for a year now and find that the expericnce both intellectual and visual were so very simular to the views from the movie that it put into words what an ayahuasca journey was about for myself personally....touching the universal consciousness with my mind and actually seeing and sensing it with in my mind.

you know -in my opinion- if you are on a drug of any kind it negates thee experience altogether. I have a had numerous eluminating and real enlightening personal experiences and the only ones that I know are real are the times when I was completely off drugs and was in full capacity of myself. In a meditative state at times or even once in a dream state- if you have had this experience then you know what I mean- you can still be in total control and be there {wherever your experience takes you personally} and be very cognisent of it at the same time. When drugs of any kind are involved I didnt feel that the experience had anything to do with me- persay- just a drug induced experience that did nothing to change me in any way.
